SPECIAL EVENTS FOR YOUNG RIDERS
   
In addition to private and group lessons which are available for young riders throughout the year, we also arrange a variety of special events to coincide with school holidays. They combine 'fun' with opportunities to improve riding skills and to learn more about horse care.

We give below examples of some popular children's events. Please ask the Rycroft office for more details of these or other special courses.  The dates of events planned over the next few months are given in Future Events.

 Teenager tackles a jump on Rycroft's cross-country course
Day at the Stables A fun day for children over 6 years old (any ability). A typical day runs from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. The programme includes riding, grooming, hacking and a competition. Bring a packed lunch and wet weather clothing.
'Own a Pony' These may be 3-day or 4-day events. The courses, which run from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. each day, are for children over 8 years old. Instruction includes:
  • learning to look after your pony with day-to-day care, mucking out, grooming etc.
  • group lessons: introducing dressage and show-jumping
  • hacking in Bramshill Forest with a Treasure Hunt
  • competition for the best turned-out pony

Children care for their 'own' pony under supervision.
Children's Hack A 1½ hour hack in Bramshill Forest, normally held on afternoons during school holidays. Suitable for novice riders. Children should be aged 8 years upwards. In the summer, we sometimes organise a Picnic Ride.  
Mini 'Learn to Jump' Clinic A clinic to learn the basic skills of jumping. Suitable for children from 8 years upwards. The event runs from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and includes grooming, lessons and fun jumping with rosettes awarded.
'Learn to Canter' Clinic A clinic to learn the basic skills of cantering.  Suitable for children from 8 years upwards. The event runs from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and includes grooming, lessons in cantering and a competition with rosettes awarded.
